If I had the time, patience and skill...

...I would definitely prepare Bento like this for my kids. It would sure circumvent the all-too-familiar battle my rugrats over finishing their food. These wonderful Bentos are created by Anna the Red, who made her first “kyaraben-ish” bento for her boyfriend not too long ago. On her blog, she gives wonderful step-by-step instructions and how-to photos. I think I will give it a shot when hubby has time off work next month.

  1. Ok, I am confused as to WHY your children must clean their plate and torn between admiration and confusion as to why you would want to spend your time creating such adorable and time-consuming dinners.

Of course, I am a believer in filling, healthy meals, but I have never been great at their presentation, so maybe I am just jealous.

  2. The reason hubby and I insist that the kids finish off their plates is because we let them serve themselves. We are trying to teach them to take only as much as they can actually eat. Of course, we do not follow the rule to a "t", and enforce it only within reason. It's been working well - the kids have actually begun to take smaller amounts and get second helpings if they are still hungry after the first.

Hubby and I are suckers for food presentation.
